Make the perfect Shallow Rig yourself! | LUPA Style

DIY Swivel Chain Shallow Rig | LUPA Style – Fishing with softbaits, and especially large softbaits (23cm +) is becoming increasingly popular. Many predatory fish can be woken up for such a large, natural-feeling bite. The Company PIKECRAFT has brought a large number of beautiful ready-made solutions to the market; the so-called 'Stinger Rig'. The DIY Swivel Chain Shallow RIG (LUPA Style)

THE big advantage of these Swivel Chain Stinger Rigs (belonging to the Shallow Rigs) is that when drilling a large fish, the lure hangs outside the mouth of the predatory fish in almost all cases, which means the fish is less likely to come loose. Another advantage is that your shad is less damaged by pike teeth. Especially with softbaits, this is an advantage that should not be underestimated!

The Swivel Chain Stinger RIG is very durable. The connected swivel chains have a tensile strength of 40kg and are virtually indestructible. A small disadvantage is that they add weight to your final assembly. Not much, but that may not be desirable with certain softbaits. In that case, using wire (titanium 7 strands or flexonit) is a better solution.

This RIG consists of:

• 2x BKK Spear 21 UVO Treble hook in size 1, 1/0, to 5/0.
• 1x Shallow RIG Double Swivel
• 2x Split ring #5 stainless steel
• 1x Oval Split Ring or Pikecraft Oval Split Ring
• 2x Pikecraft Bait Pins (L)
• 1x Shallow RIG Swivel Chain (3 chain, 4 chain or 5 chain)

An 18cm softbait can be rigged perfectly with a '3 chain' and 2x #1 treble hooks. But for the 23cm shad below we think we need a '5 chain' to 'cover' this softbait properly.

In the picture you see the softbait that is going to be rigged. With a '5 chain' and 2x #2/0 we will be fine. This shad is 23cm. If I were to rig a 40cm softbait, I would put two '4 chains' together with an extra split ring and an extra bait pin and take the treble hooks larger; e.g. 4/0. If you go for really big treble hooks; #4/0 or 5/0, the standard split rings will no longer suffice. Then we recommend the BKK Split Rings in #7 or #8!

TIP: A Split ring pliers is a handy tool to assemble this Stinger rig yourself. A combination with striking razor-sharp trebles is always a good idea in our opinion. In this case the BKK UVO trebles.

Now slide the Oval split ring over the Pikecraft THE System Shallow Rig Screw You can then provide this with the special lead free weights of Pikecraft.
