Tungsten Jigheads, the Best Jigheads!

Tungsten Jigheads

By Berthil Bos

I have already written an article under the heading ''Weightful pike-perch''. You can find this article in the archive of my Tips 'n Trics section on Totalfishing. With this article I tried to make it clear that you should present the rubber, armed with a Tungsten Jighead, where the pike-perch are most likely to be found, the bottom.

This seems like a logical choice, but presenting the shad with a jig head at great depths is no easy feat and can be very frustrating, especially for the not yet experienced angler.

Since the real specialists are still very sensitive with a head of approximately 14 grams at 10 meters, it is quickly assumed that fishing as light as possible is the norm.

Now you can do your utmost to place the light jig head on the bottom every time, but in my opinion you are more concerned with trying to feel the bottom than actually fishing.

If not everything is right about the material and you still lack the experience, nine times out of ten you will not feel anything and will be fishing in a vacuum, or rather, in a vacuum.

This makes it much more important to fish with heavier jig heads to ensure that your shad is near the bottom.

A difference of 14 grams and a cup of 18 grams already makes a significant difference and going a step further won't hurt either.

It is often said that sucking in a light jig head such as 14 grams is much easier for our stickleback and on some days I can emphasize that, but usually it doesn't matter.

Otherwise it will look strange underwater if pike-perch are so picky that they can't catch all the baitfish that are a few grams too heavy.

2 1Of course, using heavier jigheads also has a disadvantage, especially if you switch to fishing diagonally instead of vertically. As the boat accelerates, more pressure will be placed on the larger jig head, causing it to move away from the bottom and requiring you to use even more weight.

It seems clear to me that you cannot continue to do this indefinitely, because at a certain point the lure has an action like a brick.

Tungsten Jighead vs. Jighead 14gram2

The jig head is 14 grams and yet the 18 gram tungsten is smaller with a finer hook.

Tungsten Jigheads… more sensitive, less resistance and environmentally friendly

Fortunately, there are also innovative developments in the field of jig heads and one of these is the use of tungsten (tungsten) instead of lead. Unlike lead, tungsten is a safe metal and that is a lot more pleasant for nature.

The fishing advantage of this metal is that its specific weight is a lot higher than lead, so you need less for the same weight. And here lies the big advantage.

The tungsten head is a lot smaller for the same weight and you can take advantage of that. A cup of 18 grams suddenly looks like a cup of 14 and that fishes a lot more sensitively.

A smaller and therefore more streamlined head also has major advantages when casting. Less resistance on the tip also makes fishing a lot more sensitive this way and the action of the shad benefits from it.

Now I hear some people think that the difference is not that bad, but for fishermen who want to get the most out of their hobby, every detail counts. I'm sure you will notice the difference and if you can also do the environment a favor.

Lureparts.nl has different weights tungsten jig heads in stock, which are equipped with extremely sharp Japanese hooks, where the 'Keeper', you know the hook that keeps the shad in place, is wrapped and therefore cannot damage the rubber if it comes off. Visit the site and take advantage of these loo... tungsten heads.
